REMEMBER TO LEAVE YOUR SHOES AND EGOS AT THE DOOR!

We are affiliated with the Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood, and many other grappling and MMA schools train with us. Creative Loafing labels it, “Best reason to get into a fight in Ybor.” All are welcome and remember, “It will change your life!” -Chris Reed

The goal of YCJJC is to bring jiu jitsu to people who want to train in a competitive yet friendly atmosphere. It’s a life changing art that develops patience, strength, endurance, mental toughness, and humility. You become more patient as you slowly learn all the techniques and refine old ones.

Strength is developed in repetitions of moves and in live grappling
Endurance grows one minute at a time during matches.

You have to embrace mental toughness as others try to physically change your body’s position and choke or tap you out.

Humility is a must because there is always someone out there who is better than you.
Ybor City Jiu Jitsu Club is a think tank dedicated to all forms of grappling arts. YCJJC takes elements from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Catch Wrestling, Olympic Wrestling, Judo, and Sambo. The club’s humble beginnings started over a conversation between Joey Best and Christopher Reed. These founders have over twenty years of grappling experience between them and have earned multiple medals and belts which adorn the school. They started the club by renting a small spot in Ybor City. That spot was upstairs in the old Roosevelt café; now, it’s located a stone’s throw from the original spot near the corner of 15th Street and 8th Avenue.
